La Quinta was set up in 1980 by Giuseppe De Vecchi, the then general director of Tescosa S.p.A., a company belonging to the Fila group. His idea was to create a service company that would liaise between designers and companies, acting as a catalyst for everything involved with the world of fashion and design.
La Quinta immediately attracted prestigious clients such as Charles Jourdan, Celine and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, for whom it managed development of their labels. Results achieved soon brought the company to the growing attention of fashion houses in Italian and abroad. This in turn led to the creation of the design division, which cultivated careful selection of young talents, and the licensing division, which was soon to develop ambitious projects for that period, such as Gian Marco Venturi.
An important break came in 1984 in the form of collaboration with the Philip Morris group, for which La Quinta conceived and managed the launch of the Marlboro casual wear brand.
At the same time, work was ongoing to expand the company’s scope on an international level. Industrial design became the company’s new area of expertise and the first agency was opened in Tokyo, marking the beginning of big projects with multinationals such as Matsushita Electronics and Yamaha, together with designers of the calibre of Giugiaro, Pininfarina and Bertone.
La Quinta gradually developed its business to include complementary sectors, setting up divisions with specific remits and creating an organisation able to deliver a complete consultancy service.
All these divisions co-exist today inside a single company, organised into a network of foreign branches in the main international markets and offices in several different countries.
